Great salsa bar. Love variety. Partner got carne asada and thought it was the bomb diggity. I got the carnita verde and thought the same thing. Good house margaritas. What else is there in life. Cilantro salsa, avocado salsa so good.

Love this place! Honestly the best mexican food I have ever had. The service is right on, the food fresh with huge portions and not to mention the margaritas are amazing!! Happy hour is also a fantastic deal. 5 stars!

The two of us have been going to Los Tarascos for years for several reasons: Their happy hour is great. It's every day, even weekends, from 4-6. Half Priced Margaritas are awesome. We like to get the Cadillac which has Grand Marnier too. The salsa bar is mucho bueno. Some people like to mix them up. I like to add fresh Cilantro. The service is always good. It's a family restaurant and they know their regular customers. I don't mind that most other people seem to enjoy the Rio more, because this place rocks.

Other Mexican places are known for their drinks but their food stinks. The food here is awesome. Plus they have a great salsa bar.

  • Katie K.

My favorite Mexican place in town. Get the white sauce! They also have a great salsa bar.

  • Sarah S.

Decent place with friendly service and a fun salsa bar. The carne asada tacos are amazing, but some of the other dishes I have tried have been lackluster. My advice: stick to the carne asada tacos or you could be disappointed with your dish!

  • Charley C.

Chili Verde Plate with LOTS of pork, big chunks, no fat. wonderful. Taquitos just right with lots of sauce! Draft dos xx cool and great , especially on the patio watching the sun fade in the west Salsa bar with too many salsas to test in one sitting! Veracruz fish in a creama sauce that was fantastic Wow Vamos a comer!

This is a true family run restaurant. The service is always friendly and on top of things. This is our regular spot for "Monday margaritas" and they don't disappoint. They are my favorite margs in town (I suggest the pitcher of Cadillac margs during happy hour). Over the last several years the group of us who goes have gotten to know many of the folks on staff and we have great loyalty to them. If you talk about a big game about supporting local establishments then do it and stop by Los Tarascos! The food is consistently good. The servers often help us add a special twist to our meals by changing the sauces. The salsa bar is great and you can get corn tortillas and chips which is a nice touch. There is no place in Ft. Collins I would rather go for good Mexican food, a great margs and wonderful service!

Wow, we did not like Los Tarascos. I was disappointed too because two people have recommended this place. Out of all the Mexican food we have tried in Fort Collins this place goes on the bottom of the list. I had the Chile Rellenos (one cheese, one cheese and mushroom) it came with rice and beans. I really did not like it so much so that I think I only ate 4 or 5 bites. The peppers did not look right, the taste and texture were quite off as well. The beans, salty and very canned tasting. The rice had a funny fake taste and it was way too salty. My husband had the Seafood Combo, it was a seafood enchilada and a seafood rellenos but he said he didn't find much seafood in either. So you know they have a salsa bar (which everyone seems to really dig) but you do not get free chips. The chips are like a $1.99 a basket, they are greasy, salty homemade (or homefried) corn chips. The salsa was probably the best thing, the hot one isn't really hot but there is fresh cilantro to add to it which is nice. There was a hot cilantro one that isn't hot but has a good flavor kinda mint chutney-ish. The place has nice lighting and is comfortable.

Los T's, never a bad experience! I come in from time to time, sometimes with friends and often alone. The wait staff is phenomenal, food is excellent (never greasy or oily) and the Margaritas are BOMB AF! Luis is always my server: prompt, polite, and always cheerful. He doesn't make you feel like a jerk for not knowing how to order in Spanish. Folks, I hate seeing this place empty at lunch time, so call in your friends and make reservations for work meetings! Salsa bar? To die for! There's something for everyone here, and none of the salsa is onion flavored lava. At least get your limit of margs, which is 2, because they pack a punch without a sugary stomach ache! Final word: Sopapilla. If you haven't had it here, you owe it to your taste buds and spare tire. Do it for the children!

Salsa bar: 5 stars Lots of variety and excellent options for those who like it hot. The fact that you have to pay separately for chips is kinda weird for an ostensibly sit-down Mexican restaurant, but it's cheap so whatever. Food: 2 stars The food itself didn't impress. The grilled chicken salad includes a whole breast of chicken, but only a side of lettuce. I think they're going for a deconstructed thing, but why skimp on the cheaper ingredients? My hubby's carnitas tacos were dry and uninspired. Margaritas: 4 stars Didn't try any of my husband's marg, but he was suitably impressed. Overall, there are better options in town for Mexican faire, but I'll probably be back for that salsa bar anyway. 3 stars.

  • Nata B.

The restaurant it self has nice ambiance, the hostess was polite and nice, the same is our waitress and that I think nice things end up right there ... The food is weird for Mexican good. First of all never in my life have I had beef fajitas with the meat not having been grilled. That's beef was cooked in some sort of sauce and the meat was stewed not grilled ... For kids we got tacos, enchilada and tamales , all of there food were mushy and did I forgot to mention that waitress forgot to bring each of it for kids, she just got one of each for kid. Green chilly didn't have flavor and burrito was mushy as well. My husband was really unhappy with food and he know what is good Mexican food. He gives 0 stars for this place and made to wright review Two stars from me only for the waitress, ambiance and cleanliness.

I've only been here for lunch, but the lunch has always been quite good. Love the salsa bar. Particularly good for carne adovado and similar dishes. I've not tried standard mex fare like burritos. Nice furnishings, good atmosphere, good service.

  • Kerry T.

I'm divorcing myself from what used to be a stellar relationship .... my lunch yesterday was tepid at best. A tired, old relleno and a scrimpy, mushy chicken enchilada withered under a dried out puddle of red sauce. Combined with stale overcooked chips, bitter salsas and almost non-existent service. Meh, indeed.

Atmosphere, good. Service, excellent. Food, excellent. Drinks...they go beyond excellence in Fort Collins.

  • P.D. P.

Love the food (especially the pablano sauce!), the Margaritas, and the fun, gracious, family atmosphere that ALWAYS welcomes us. Sitting on the porch on a beautiful evening is the best. The high value and moderate price -- thank you!

Los Tarascos puts all of their energy into their tasty frozen margaritas and enthusiastic service that treats you like an "amigo" and tells you "muchos gracias." I originally requested a water, but before I knew it, I was scooping the last bit of margarita from the pitcher into my glass. No water in sight for anyone at my table, but we were having a good time. I think I ordered the wrong thing. I had heard good things about their sauces, but opted for carnitas tacos instead. I am used to food-truck-style tacos, where they grill up the meat right there in front of you and pile it on top of two hot, fresh tortillas, then load it up with cilantro and onions. What I got here didn't resemble that at all. I got two flaccid lumps of pork (claimed to be carnitas) in two soggy tortillas. It tasted okay after I loaded it up with all the stuff at the salsa bar and squeezed the lime from my marg on it, but the texture was anything but dazzling. For $9 I thought I'd at least get three tacos, but there were only two. Plate came with the traditional beans and rice. Of all things, I actually liked the rice because it was light, not mushy, and aromatic. The beans, meh. Next time I think I'll get the chicken mole. My friend ordered that and it looked and smelled pretty good.

Los Tarascos is a go-to for me when craving a solid, quick Mexican meal. Salsa bar is great with varying levels of heat. I often mix two or 3 to get the flavor I want. Food is really really good, not great, but ALWAYS good. Knowing what to expect every visit is a huge thing for me, and they are extremely consistent. I recommend going for happy hour and getting a pitcher of margs, and staying for dinner.

  • Heather B.

I came here with a friend who told me this was one of the best Mexican restaurants in Ft. Collins. Being from Southern CA, I had my hesitations. They didn't prove me wrong. I ordered the 2 cheese enchilada plate, one with red sauce and one with green sauce. I was told they're known for their enchiladas, and that's my favorite Mexican food dish. If that's the case, that's pretty sad. The cheese was hard. It was more like a solid block with tortillas wrapped around it. There was barely any sauce for either enchilada. They were pretty dry. I will say that the staff is very friendly, and the margaritas were pretty good. I would come here again for happy hour, but not for another meal. They also have a pretty good salsa bar.

    (3)
  • Jaylon W.

Want a damn good margarita? GO HERE.We got the Cadillac Pitcher and wow. So fresh and well balanced. I'm not even a fan of margaritas but these were just perfect. The food was also fantastic. I got the shrimp acapulcos enchiladas. Atmosphere, margs, food, service...just everything is delicious. In fact, I think I will go there today during happy hour to get another pitcher:) Oh and also the salsa bar is phenominal. The cilantro salsa=orgasm in my mouth.

  • CO G.

If you like traditional Mexican food, this is the place for you. In my opinion, it is the best Mexican food in Fort Collins. If you like bland food or tex mex this is not the place for you. The food has flavor and the salsa bar is wonderful! The drinks are good. A little on the pricey side for Mexican food but not any different than any other Mexican restaurant in town. I am used to the Mexican food you can find in Southern Colorado and this place measures up.

    (4)
  • David F.

The food was OK, the salsa bar is a cool feature. I think it is pretty over priced for Mexican food that was so-so. If you plan to go, pick up some of the coupons that you can find pretty much anywhere around town.

    (2)
  • Justin D.

This restaurant doesn't deserve even 1 star. Reasons why: 1. The salsa tastes like Bananas 2. There are air bubbles in the salsa 3. Chips-n-Salsa? Chips aren't free, but the salsa is free at the salsa bar. 4. Cheese on your tacos? That'll be $1.50 for a pinch of cheese! 5. Poorly Managed! 6. Stingy prices ($10 for 2 of the tiniest tacos EVER! (Oh and they don't come with cheese - that's extra $) Only good thing was the friendly waiters/waitresses. I will never eat here again.

    (1)
  • Claudia F.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican this is your place. Lots of options, different items you don't see at other restaurants and the regular staples if you know what you like. Oh yeah and Happy hour margs!

  • Aleksandar R.

Came in on Sunday night for dinner. Ordered and was served in under 7 min. Had Carne Asada dinner and it was excellent. Very tender, medium rare done with great flavor. Not easy to do... Excellent guacamole looks like home made and chunky. Will come back again.

My new favorite Mexican restaurant in FC. I've been to nearly every one in town and this place beats most of them hands down. More authentic, spicier, better-tasting food. Finally, another place in town with strong margs but better food. Chicken mole is a difficult dish for most Mexican restaurants in this area, so I use it as my barometer. It was the best I've had in this area by far. Their salsas are really flavorful. We ordered a lot of food to see what they could do. No fails, not one. Everything was top-notch. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices were very reasonable. The booths are comfortable, the place is clean. I rate Mexican restaurants based on my several trips to six different areas of Mexico and my use of well-known (Diane Kennedy) Mexican cookbooks at home. I am seeking authenticity to a particular region. Senor Camaron had it, Inca has it with some of their food. Give this place a try!

Price for the food and drinks is a little high for standard food fare you can get at a fast food establishment. Service was excellent

  • Alden C.

The food here is pretty good. The recipes for many of the entrees seem a bit unusual which can be both good and bad. I had tacos and stocked up at the salsa bar. I thought the green salsas were good and hot. A plus! My partner had a burrito which instead being smothered in a green chile sauce had a sour cream sauce on it. It didn't taste too bad to me but he thought the sauce was just a bit too unusual for him to really like the dish. I liked the bite myself that I had from his dish but agreed I wasn't too sure I would want all of that all over my burrito and have it smothered in that fashion. The flan that I had for dessert was pretty good and the atmosphere was nice and interesting. Margaritas were decent. Los Tarascos was all in all not a bad meal but it didn't make on my admittedly stringent list of top Mexican restaurants that I would frequent often.

  • Hamburguesa J.

They don't mess around with the mole special (not on the menu), authentic, flavor similar to what we had in Oaxaca. Cilantro salsa es muy sabrosa and one of our top favorites from the salsa bar. Carnitas estilo Uruapan is good, strong margs. They serve complimentary corn tortillas instead of chips which is fine for us although chips are available for purchase. Other than that it's pretty standard fare for this town. I think tequila and hot sauce help drown my senses as I always enjoy it but like the other Mexican joints in town, I think they skate on a few things like rice and beans.

  • Stephen R.

Good despite the over zealous use of straws in all their drinks. Good service. There was an easy mistake on the order and they quickly fixed it with no hassle. Ceviche was good, as were the rellenos and enchiladas.

  • Wang S.

Delicious food! We loved the puntas de filete as well as the guacamole! The atmosphere was wonderful! The food was just delicous. Coming back again.

Awesome Happy Hour Experience! Pitchers of Margarita's is the way to go! Wonderful front patio! Extensive selection of salsa's available with either soft or crispy corn ships. Family owned and operated. Great service with one of the most professional staffs in town. Their are those local places that limited one to two margarita's while Los Tarasco's dares you to drink two!

    (4)
  • Wendell F.

Good food, good atmosphere, good drinks. I love it. I am just not a fan of any kind of communal bar and $1 charge for each THREE tortillas after the first being free. Why have a salsa bar at all, if no free unlimited corn tortillas?

    (4)
  • Shannon B.

The food is amazing but if you know your mexican food, you know it is delicious as well as abundant which makes it worth the money! Los Tarascos is delicious but you get very little for what you pay. Service is average.

  • Sarnen S.

This is what a mexican restaurant should be. Great salsa bar (Avocado and Cilantro were our favorite), free tortillas (pay for chips) good happy hour and margaritas. Great enchiladas. Some of the best service we have had on our 12 days in FoCo. Great outdoor patio and very cute and nicely decorated inside as well. Again, amazing service.

    (5)
  • Larren M.

Not bad. I wouldn't run to go there again. The service was good. A little pushy. We didn't get much time to decide before we heard. "Ready?". They have a salsa bar that is pretty cool, lots to choose from. I really liked the hot tomatillo one, which actually was hot for once. They hand make their own tortillas which are so good, they were very convenient for mopping up all the different salsas. The chips were also very good. For the meal I tried the shredded beef soft taco and the pork carnita enchilada. It came with the usual rice and beans. The enchilada was good but the soft taco was pretty dry. The sauce for the enchilada sort of helped it along. The beans and rice were also OK. I had a fun time with family and I enjoyed the food. Might check it out again just for the tortillas, chips, and salsas.

  • Lindsey B.

Los Tarascos is one of the best mexican restaurants in town! Right when you sit down they bring you warm corn tortillas. You then can help yourself to a big salsa bar. Try the avocado salsa, its my favorite. Their house margaritas are the best, and they also have amazing pitchers. The food is average to high priced, but I always leave full and happy!

    (4)
  • Jessie J.

Meh... Marginal at best. With Los Comales (authentic Mexican food) so close there's no reason to eat here as it's just another run of the mill Americanized Mexican knock-off.

    (2)
  • E. P.

We are regulars here for their happy hour margaritas and their shrimp cocktail. The margs are not too sweet. The shrimp cocktail has lovely chunks of avocado and plump shrimp in a spicy tomato broth with fresh tomatoes and onions. So good! They also have quail on the menu! The grilled quail is one of my faves. And then there's the salsa bar. It makes me happy! I always go for the molcajete and the habanero salsa, while my husband has a fondness for the avocado salsa. Yes there are more authentic taco shop type places in town, and there certainly are plenty of dumbed down chain type places, but for our tastes these guys strike a nice balance.

  • Tim H.

I've heard Los Tarascos called both the best and the worst Mexican food in Fort Collins, so I went in expecting a polarizing experience. I wouldn't place it on either extreme, but I certainly don't see 5-star appeal to the place. The restaurant itself is a bit dingy and oddly arranged. The interior of the building could be beautiful with nicer tables and a better layout. One of the draws is the salsa bar, but it's tucked away in a corner behind a row of tables. The hostess stand is uncomfortably close to the door when trying to come in with a group larger than a few people. The salsa bar is fun and has some tasty options, such as avocado and habanero salsas. Corn tortillas are provided as an appetizer to dip in the salsas. Our group of four people was given five tortillas, which didn't go very far with the salsas. We were all left feeling a bit silly for getting big scoops of salsa and not having anything to dip. It seems like the whole idea is poorly planned and left us a little confused. I tried a chicken enchilada and carnitas taco. The chicken in the enchilada was nicely seasoned and tender, but the enchilada sauce was very acidic and potent. Not recommended for heartburn sufferers! The carnitas taco was essentially pork wrapped in a corn tortilla - no hint of lime juice, cilantro, seasonings. I added some salsa from the salsa bar but still wasn't blown away.

Traditional Mexican-American fare, nothing super fancy but that's what I like. We went on a Monday night and found it not too crowded and well staffed. The food was good and the restaurant and bathrooms appeared very clean and well kept. The prices were average and the portions were good. I expected some chips to munch on while waiting for our diner, but we had to ask for them and they cost $2. They have a decent salsa bar so you can mix up whatever combination you want. Overall I would recommend this place and will be going again.

  • Joshua C.

Ok I judge a Mexican restaurant on their Margaritas and their food. Traditionally I find that good Margs means bad food and vise versa. I have to say that in the case of Los Tarascos they have a very strong margarita that might be on the sweet side, but is just as strong as the famous Gringo favorite in old town. Without the long wait and bad food. The food is more traditional then others and I love the warm tortillas with salsa bar. People might not like the serve your self salsa with sneeze guard included, but I like mixing and matching ( go for the avo salsa mixed with tomatillo). The wait staff is very friendly but may not always understand what you are asking for, especially if you ask a busser. Over all pass up the long wait for bad food and good margaritas and get a good marg and good food

After several visits it is maintaining must-eat status in my house. Now we forgo the chips and dip the tortillas in salsas from the bar.

While visiting ST, my retired horse, a friend and I decided to have lunch in Ft. Collins at Los Tarscos. Since there are so many good Mexican restaurants in CO, Los Tarascos does not even hold a flame to most of them. They get one extra star because the service is friendly and the salsa bar is not that bad when you mix several of the salsas together. I will be looking for something else in Ft. Collins when visiting ST.

  • Raygina K.

This is one of our stand by restaurants. The service is always top notch and the food is really good. I've tried tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas and there hasn't been a bad meal in any of them.

Favorite Mexican in town, and one of my fave restaurants in town. Amazing salsa bar, fantastic menu and the margs here are 10x better than the Rio (not so full of sugar). You can't go wrong. The staff are friendly and efficient and the place is kept decently clean. Yum.

    (5)
  • Kristin M.

I've found it. I've found a Mexican restaurant in Fort Collins that I really like. To me, nothing else compares (as far as I've discovered), but some of my friends disagree. Good Mexican food in Fort Collins is such a hot, debatable topic that nobody seems to be able to agree on. After my night out at Los Tarascos, I feel like I have no reason to go back to The Rio for margaritas (and certainly not for their food!) and have no desire to go anywhere else for enchiladas.

    (5)
  • Justin F.

Not a bad option. Food was decent. I liked the idea of their salsa bar, but felt all the salsas were pretty lacking. Either they were bland or bland and spicy. Margaritas were pretty decent, not as good as the Rio's. But the Rio's food is terrible, so your choice on the trade off.

    (3)
  • James A.

Margarita's are great. Taquitos are waaaay too delicious. Ambiance is solid. Food and vibe is very authentic. Left happy with more money in my pocket than expected.

Alanis Morrisette didn't realize it, but she wrote the theme song for this place with "Ironic". For a place that prides itself on its salsa bar, that was the least enjoyable part of the experience, and what may keep me from coming back. None of the 8 or so salsas really worked for me. Maybe it's better to be awesome at one thing rather than offer an entire spectrum of stuff. When the main course (mine was an enchilada plate) came out, I found it very average. Not bad, mind you, just not very memorable. Also, the menu had some definite misses. Would have liked to see more kinds of enchiladas, maybe a chimichanga would not hurt the menu either. Finally, and I know this can vary from visit to visit. It seems like our wait person was a bit too quick to take our order, but very slow in processing my card once the bill finally came out. Our wait person was very friendly though, and it helped me overlook some of the awkward breaks in service. Still, Fort Collins has tons of good mexican restaurants (though not one that I would say is GREAT). While this wasn't terrible, I don't think it will find a spot on my mex food rotation.

    (2)
  • Julia H.

The thing that sets Los Tarascos apart from any other Mexican joint, is the fantastic salsa bar that you are welcome to attack right away. Avocado salsa, cilantro salsa (my favorite), and all the classics varying from medium to extremely hot red salsas. Chips are not complimentary (total bummer, and that's why it gets three stars), but once we got the chips I can understand a bit why we had to pay for them. They are thick, homemade and salted perfectly. I ordered the vegetarian burrito - it was decent but next time I would try the fish tacos. The beans are vegetarian - Yay! Oh, the margaritas are fantastic -- I ordered the mango margarita and it was LOADED with booze. Be careful with these puppies!

  • Bob S.

Had dinner there last night with 4 others. Food excellent, salsa bar a plus. Wait staff great. All would be fine for anyone that doesn't care about the bar offering. Bar Prices way high and short pours seemed common. Enjoy the food but drink elsewhere. High rating for food. Not bar.

  • Hopeless Coffee A.

This place has a salsa bar which is something I have not seen too much around Colorado at least in comparison to other places I have been. The salsas on this bar are okay. There isn't one that stands out but I have managed to make a pretty decent one to suit me out of two that are on there bar. I have only had carne asada in the form of burritos or fajitas and they have always been good. The margaritas are good. Nice ambiance. I would recommend it.

  • Lisa R.

Homemade salsas .. all types, guacamole salsa, cilantro salsa, hot, mild, and more! They give you a few corn tortillas to start out with, but they have a salsa bar that you can have as much as you want. They serve radishes, lime, cliantro, and lemon too. Great with the food. Chips cost extra. The food is pretty good and the Margs are great. One of my fav Mexican places.

  • Kadie A.

A lot of people tell me that this Mexican restaurant is more "authentic" then most in town. They have a different menu with less of the "average" Mexican food type items, and I have to admit that it took me a couple of times to find something on the menu that I loved, but now that I have, I'm hooked! Try the Ceviche A La Tequila, which is basically a shrimp pico de gallo with avocado and tequila thrown in. It's served with chips and is quite possibly the best dish there! They have a salsa bar, which is fun, but not amazing. The cilantro one is great, kind of a cilantro/lime/sour cream kind of sauce, but the others are pretty average. They serve corn tortillas at the table to eat with the salsas, but I would rather have chips (which you have to buy). I had a Marg and thought it was pretty strong, but enjoyable. Nicely redone interior with stucco and faux "thatched" roofs and secluded booths around the perimeter. Nice little patio as well, although it can be a little noisy since it sits on College.

We were given some tortillas when we sat down but I didnt know what to do with them. Then they explained there is a salsa bar. "Oh" I said, but still didnt know what to do with them. I tried one with some "very hot but not actually hot" salsa, dunking it in while my Honduran wife snickered at me thinking I was being silly. The margaritas we got tasted like ground ice with some water on top for flavor. We asked for replacements and were brought back A.) a margarita with lots of tequila and B.) a six dollar glass of crushed ice with water. When we ordered, the waiter asked my wife if she wanted tortillas with her meal. She said yes. They never came. She reminded him. He apologized and quickly went to the kitchen and apparently ordered that no-one shall bring us tortillas under penalty of death. Same happened with the water we asked for. Other than that, the food was decent.

Stopped in one day for lunch while walking down College. VERY good food! Was recently let down by a 'local' burrito place so it was great to get some good Mexican food! Salsa bar was cool and service was very friendly. Had a cold beer to wash down the habenero salsa. :) If they had chips and queso I would give them five stars. LOL. But will definitely be back!

I love Los Tarascos. Their margaritas are amazing. They have amazing salsas to choose from. The only complaint I have is that they charge you for a basket of chips. Their tortillas are to die for!

Hands down best Mexican in FoCo. Nice atmosphere, good service, and delicious food. During my most recent visit, I went for the Enchiladas Tricolor, and absolutely loved them--all three sauces were fantastic, and the shredded beef inside was delicious. In the past, I've also ordered the more traditional enchiladas, as well as carne asada, both of which were super tasty (including the ranch-style beans with the carne asada-yum!). Finally, can't go wrong with the salsa bar. The avocado salsa is my absolute favorite. Los Tarascos is definitely one that I recommend the friends.

I just want to give a word of advice, if you are a vegetarian DO NOT go here. I hadn't been here since going veggie and the last time I went there wasn't anything I could eat.
